I love animation!!!
I’m a guy from Denmark, with a huge passion for animation, and my dream is one day to bring characters to life! It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and something I hope can be made possible at TAW. Needless to say, I want to be part of Character Animation at TAW. It’s absolutely positively what I want with my life, drawing characters and make them move, and sharing it with the world!
This is my second try at applying for Character Animation, last time I was unfortunately horribly unprepared as I had no idea what was expected from me, but I feel I improved a lot after another year of research, and I feel more than ready this year to give everything I can to become part of the world of animation!
I’ve already made a very special deal with the state; they will pay my entire education.
I’ve had two semesters earlier at The Drawing Academy, and experienced Mads Peter and Artem as my teachers. Both gave me a great experience in classical art, and the teachers and students there were great people.
I’m moderately skilled with programs such as Photoshop and similar software (I personally prefer using OpenCanvas 5.5) to draw in, and I’m used to the most of the fundamental features these programs offer. I look forward to try out programs such as TV paint and Flash which I’ve only had very little experience with before. I’ve experimented with them before, creating very short animations for fun.
As for my future, my ambitions are to find a place with other people who are passionate about animation and creative characters. I’m up for creating everything from movies to games, really whatever that requires animation in some way. I don't mind traveling to other countries to make that happen. I don’t entirely have any specific places in mind, but Disney, Pixar and Warner Brothers Cartoons come to the top of my head as the most obvious really big choices out there, although I’m more than ready to start out small in more obscure and/or lesser known places, and see where it may lead me one day.
Although my aim is mostly creating things with 2D animation, since I love classic animation. I’m of course up for experimenting and working with 3D to widen my range of skills and try something new!
I am very inspired by classic animation artists like Chuck Jones and John Kricfalusi, and I have a huge passion for more simple art styles and animation like the characters and shows Craig McCracken has worked on, and the crazy over-the-top styles of Hiroyuki Imaishi. They all keep impressing and inspiring me in their own way, no matter how much I see their stuff, and I think all their styles are timeless, which is something I want to make sure I can adapt to one day; making animations that are fun no matter how old they become!
Movies influence me as well, I love sci-fi and fantasy genres, because of the world and their own set of rules of physics they create, and some of my all-time favorites are Alien and Starship Troopers.
I love games too, some of my favorites are the Borderlands games. I adore the art style and the world is whacky and violent. It’s like playing a comic book with awesome guns and face-eating maniac bandits around every corner.
I hope to become part of TAW’s Character Animation, and meet/work with people there. I love listening to what others have to say and working out things. Being open-minded about what others have to say means a lot to me in my life in general, which means I give a lot of space to other individuals when working in groups. I hope it’s something I can look forward to, so I can become a better artist and eventually an animator and pursue my dreams.
I know it’s something I can do and I hope to be part of TAW’s Character Animation to prove this!
